When dry or dormant, the Rose of Jericho appears as a tightly curled brown ball. Also known as the "resurrection plant" or "resurrection fern", the Rose of Jericho can survive in a dormant state without water or rooted for 2 or more years, and then come entirely back to life. When watered or planted, the stems will begin to uncurl and recover to their original green color. There is another plant with similar qualities and the same common name classified as Anastatica Hierochuntica (also called the True Rose of Jericho), but this green spike moss (Selaginella Lepidophylla also called the Fake Rose of Jericho) is more abundantly found, easier to grow, more attractive and embodies Magickal properties. The Anastatica Hierochuntica must be rooted in soil in order to resurrect.

Rose of Jericho is one of the most fascinating plants in the herbal kingdom as she functions much the same way as our soul does. Our souls can stay dormant and suppressed for years, but when nourished properly, it can expand into the most brilliant display of love and light. This plant calls in whatever is needed for your soul to thrive. Use it in your prosperity and protection workings as well.

Medicinal Properties:

Rose of Jericho is said to provide lung health for those battling asthma, treat infertility in women, diabetes, arthritis, menstrual cramps, a digestive system aid, and induce labor of childbirth. Unfortunately, there aren't any studies to supports this evidence but that's where are benevolent ancestors and healing Spirit Guides show up for us.

Care Instructions:

With Rose of Jericho being a desert plant, they don't like being wet. It's best to soak only the roots in lukewarm water without wetting the rest of the plant. You can place rocks, water safe crystals or pebbles in a bowl and fill with just enough water to feed the roots. Change the water every 1-2 days to keep clean and try not to over-water. Give it a week long break from watering to prevent molding by allowing it to completely dry for 7 days each month. 

Common Issues:

If you immerse your plant in water and it remains brown and uncurled, it may have come to the end of its lifespan. Some may have more brown than green when resurrected but if it opens and is barely green, it might be too damaged or dying to properly recover. If your plant experiences moldy leaves from overwatering, simply remove it and gently clean in a mild, diluted mixture of bleach OR vinegar and lukewarm water.

Bleach to Water ratio - 1:1 (ex. 1/2 cup bleach, 1/2 cup water) OR Water to Vinegar ratio - 2:1 (ex. 1 cup water, 1/2 cup vinegar). Let it completely dry out for a week and return to its container.
